Sunday: The Bad, The Good

Just saying hello!  And whinging a little, because I'm once again in the midst of home reno disarray.  Everything is covered in plaster dust, and all the furniture is still in the bedroom.  I am starting a trial tomorrow, and these are not optimum conditions for working, so I'm giving up and planning on getting to the office by 7:00 tomorrow.

On the other hand, I went to the Westminster Dog Show Agility Competition yesterday, and the dogs were fantastic.  Also, the Olympics are happening, and I love the Olympics in the corniest way possible, although I'm a bit conflicted since we probably shouldn't be participating at all.

Most of all, though: SHERLOCK!  Which I won't discuss in detail, except to say that I don't think the love story between them is subtextual any longer; or if it is, it's so barely beneath the surface as to be inconsequential.  If these characters weren't same-sex, I can't imagine anyone would doubt that this is a romance that's been developing, and simmering, and is coming to a boil.  All of which makes me incredibly happy!!  And in celebration, instead of doing work, I'm going to watch Billy Wilder's The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes, which I haven't seen since I was a kid, because of what Mark Gatiss says about it.  And I'll also offer a Sherlock rec: Luminosity, by what_alchemy.  Short, and beautiful, and touching.

I went to the Westminster Dog Show Agility Competition yesterday,

WHAT?!?! That is so cool! I watched them on TV and just loved seeing them! It must have been infinitely cooler seeing it all live and in person!

It was SO great. I've been to the regular Westminster show several times, and it's always a good time, but this was enjoyable in a different way -- more of a sense of fun to it, plus they allowed mutts to compete. And the owners are all very nice about letting you pet the dogs.

I love dogs, but my partner is very allergic, so we can't have one. Sniff.

Sherlock - I adored the last episode and kick ass Mary is just perfect for John

I also haven't seen The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes in years. I just love Robert Stephens voice - it's like bathing in chocolate (not that I ever have...but poetic licence...)
I remember BBC Radio 4 doing their adaptation of Lord of the Rings many years ago and he was Aragorn, and that voice just made me shiver - and with Ian Holm as Frodo and a very young Bill (then William) Nighy as Sam, it was a brilliant production.

I've always been fascinated what it must have been like when Robert Stephens and Maggie Smith were married - now I bet that was an interesting relationship!

I have Luminosity on my 'to read' list, so thank you for the reminder.

Robert Stephens really does have one of those voices. But then, so does Benedict Cumberbatch.

Luminosity is a quick read, but it will stay with you.
