You're welcome, and you nailed it! I agree totally that Spike is actually surprisingly (for anyone in the show) insecure, and even though he tries to keep it under wraps it has a way of coming out in any prolonged relationship.
And don't be sorry for any prolonged rambles, I'm totally happy to continue to explore character motivations, even though most of my IRL friends are probably sick to death of me talking about it, ha!
