Tribute (Spike/Xander)

Title: Tribute
Author: baudown
Pairing: Spike/Xander
Disclaimer: Not mine
Warning: Character death
Written for: open_on_sunday
Word count: 100
Prompt: Florence and the Machine (Song title: The Girl With One Eye)

When it came to killing, Angelus had fancied himself an artiste.   Always left a signature behind -- a cross etched in flesh, a macabre tableau -- calling cards that read, Scourge of Europe.

Pretentious nonsense, Spike had thought, being more of a meat-and-potatoes kind of bloke, himself.  Fists and fangs, a bellyful of blood, and he was content.

But something's been stolen from him; something precious, and beloved.  It's Spike who'll be leaving a signature now, to remind them of the man whose life they've taken.

Spike steps over the girl with one eye, the first in a long line to come.

Oh, very dark and symbolic. Avenging poor William.

Ooh. But I meant him to be avenging *Xander* -- hence the one-eyed state he leaves the victim in. Oh well -- I guess I didn't bring it off properly! But I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway!

Oh no! It's just it's women so I assumed he was getting back at old one eyed Cecily who didn't see him at all. :D

Just unclear writing on my part. It happens. No worries though!

Oh, I liked this!

I'm so glad! Thank you.

Yikes.

This is so excellent; it raised the hair on the back of my neck. For the record, I understood the nature of the one-eye calling card perfectly - that's exactly what made it so chilling. Excellent work and, as usual, love the use of prompt.

Thank you!

I wasn't familiar with the song (which is fantastically creepy, if you've heard or read the lyrics), but once I saw the title, I really felt that, soul or not, Spike could be driven to doing this. I have to say, I kind of creeped myself out.

Oh dear. So... somebody killed Xander and now Spike's out to show his prey *why* he's going after them with each new 'victim'?

Cool.

Really nice look into Spike's psyche

Yes! Although I feel a little guilty about the whole thing...

So glad you liked it, even though it went a bit dark on me.

Thank you! Although I spend what's probably an inordinate amount of time poking around his psyche.

Ouch, that was chilling and really nicely done. Spike may have been a meat and potatoes kind of a bloke, but when he's in love, he's more obsessive than Angelus could ever dream of.

Shivers!

You know, after you found me that link to The Last Waltz, I ended up rereading Red Apple Falls, and I think it got me into dark, obsessive Spike mode.

So pleased you liked it!
